The top-floor bedroom, the addition and the parlor floor
Every older New York house has one: a room that runs ten degrees off from the rest. A top-floor bedroom under the roof, a rear addition, a brownstone parlor with no space to run a duct. A window unit blocks the glass and rattles the sash. A ductless mini-split cools the room from one wall-mounted head and a thin line set, with no ductwork at all.
The same system works in reverse. In heat pump mode a mini-split warms the room in cold weather, so the head that cools a bedroom in July can take the edge off it in January.
